Miss Velita Black

Miss Velita Black has been immersed in the world of dance and performance from an early age. Starting as a ballroom dancer in childhood, she developed a lifelong passion for movement, rhythm, and the thrill of the stage. Over the years, she expanded her expertise, becoming a fitness instructor specialising in various dance formats and running her own successful business.

A strong advocate for body positivity, inclusivity, and empowerment, Miss Velita Black has always believed that dance and movement should be accessible to everyone. Her work in fitness was driven by a desire to help people feel strong, confident, and connected to their bodies—principles that have seamlessly carried over into her burlesque journey.

Her love for burlesque began over two and a half years ago, and since then, she has flourished both on and off the stage. In February 2024, she performed her first solo act, marking a major milestone in her career. Since then, she has taken part in numerous shows with renowned troupes, including The Kittens in Darlington and Foxie Fatales in Knaresborough. In 2024, she also had the honour of performing at the Newcastle Burlesque Festival.

Beyond performing, Miss Velita Black has embraced all aspects of burlesque production—getting involved in costume creation, stage management, show production, and maiding. She is passionate about the glitz, glamour, and artistry of burlesque, with a particular love for make-up and costuming that adds to the magic of the stage.

Now, after training under a burlesque mentor for over a year and completing the Showgirl Sass Instructor Course, she is preparing for her most exciting project yet. In June 2025, she will be launching her own troupe, Velita’s Vamps, alongside producing her first full-scale burlesque show in Richmond. Her vision is to create a welcoming and empowering space that celebrates diversity and provides opportunities for new and emerging performers to shine.

With a passion for Sing & Fling, Miss Velita Black is eager to explore the fusion of live vocals and burlesque while working collaboratively with fellow teachers, performers, and troupes. She strongly believes that burlesque is for everybody and every body, championing equality, confidence, and self-expression at every step of her journey.

With a deep love for glamour, performance, and creative expression, Miss Velita Black is dedicated to making burlesque an inclusive and empowering art form for all.
